I want to be domesticated, a humanitarian, a foodie, a fashionista, & a world-traveler. In the meantime, I'm a 24 year old grad student in beautiful Southern California. I'm from the cookie-cutter suburbs, but have recently relocated to Los Angeles. Here are my thoughts & adventures! Twitter: @tiffanyjam

In trying to take better care of myself, I’ve set more personal goals in regards to lifestyle changes that I think will make me a better, healthier, and happy person:
- Eat more vegetables & fruits. I’ve been trying to integrate a lot more vegetables and fruits in my diet. I try to make it a rule that half of my plate should be vegetables. For the veggies, mostly steamed, grilled, or in salads and stir fry. In the childhood obesity prevention program I’ve been working on, we like to encourage the students to “eat the colors of the rainbow” (different color fruit/vegetables everyday). I’ve been trying to do that myself, which is challenging me to try the ones I don’t normally purchase.
- Portion Control. FOOD. Y U SO GOOD?! MOAR FOOD. Your hand is the best way to measure your portions. I’ve been referring to the following diagram in prepping my meals. I’ve also tried to eat slower and not in front of the TV/computer, where I can mindlessly eat twice as much as I should.

- Take care of my skin. Even if I’m exhausted (or slightly intoxicated, hah) when I get home, I make sure I take off all my makeup. I use Kirkland Signature makeup remover wipes ($34 bucks for 300 wipes at Costco). I just purchased a Clairsonic Mia, which I use twice a day. I’ve been using the Mia for a couple weeks now and my skin does feel clean (NOTE: Some people, including myself, will notice your skin ‘purging’ and breaking out a little. These breakouts go away quickly and will stop happening in 2-3 weeks). I also moisturize my face with night cream and a moisturizer with SPF in the day.
- Let’s get physical. Even more difficult (so, so difficult) than portion control for me is getting in some physical activity throughout the day. Little by little, I’m trying to work in some exercises into my daily routine, even if it’s just some jumping jacks, lunges, or choosing to walk to my favorite study spot instead of drive. I tried running the other day, foolishly thinking I could get back into the groove of things quickly, and was proven wrong. I’m just trying to stay motivated, challenged, and patient with my body and progress.
