This year, I want all my friends to join in my efforts to make a more conscious effort to avoid and/or terminate toxic relationships. Be done with them. Get out of them. As fast as you possibly can.
Toxic relationships can be seen in the following:
- Insensitive, degrading, abusive partner
- That one friend that only brings unnecessary drama into your life
- The parasite: the person that only takes, takes, and takes
- Negative Nancy, Debbie Downer, and “The Perpetual Victim”
- People that have little to no respect for others
All the crappy relationships need to go. Everyone needs to realize that it can be a very healthy thing to evaluate your relationships and purposefully cut ties with the people who are toxic to your life. The change does not need to be abrupt. You can wean off these relationships gradually, if necessary. I’m not trying to encourage everyone to go on a bridge-burning spree, but when you reach your mid-twenties, you tend to realize that you’re overdue for some major purging in the bullshit relationship department.
